7th Grade - Art

Welcome to your second year of middle school art. The 7th grade art curriculum includes some of my favorite art movements. We will be studying Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism,Abstraction, Surealism and Realism. Along the way we will be creating art in some of these styles!

What We Are Up To Now:

Students have been working on a still life project. They started by drawing leaves and sea shells from life. The goal was to draw what they see not what they know, and pay close attention to details. Then they experimented with arrangements of objects, looking at the objects from different sides and angles and making quick thumbnail sketches of the compositions. Finally they chose between watercolor, watercolor pencils, water soluble graphite pencil, pencil, Sharpie, or colored pencils for their final artwork.

Next up we will be concurrently working on Japanese stab bound books to be used for their poetry unit in English. They will learn the art of marbling and bookmaking. At the same time they will be creating a Cubist project that I call "Picasso Meets Superheroes, Villains, and Other Characters".

Core Knowledge Curriculum:

We have finished looking at the art of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Expressionism. We are now looking at Abstraction and Cubism.
