rd Grade - Ms. Prouty's 3rd grade class visited Mr. Dunbar's makerspace lab, last week and made kaleidoscopes. They have been studying light and sound in science. Students were able to see how light bends and refracts around the different objects they put into their lens' of their kaleidoscopes.
th Grade - Students worked on a "blind" chemistry experiment, meaning I did not give them much information about what they were doing. They then made predictions, took notes and made observations. It took about a week for them to figure out the results of their experiment which turned out to be rock candy. The rest is history!

th Grade - Young Ameritown Elections - In preparation for the Young Ameritowne's field trip, students created slogans, posters, and gave speeches to sway their classmates to vote for them as the town's Mayor and Judge.

th Grade Elective Visit - Fifth-grade students joined the middle school for a taste of MS electives on Thursday. This was a fun way to help the 5th graders gain comfort with their upcoming transition to the middle school and to experience some of the unique opportunities our electives offer.

th Grade Art - Students have been creating bas-relief, dimensional artworks with texture in a wide variety of subjects using cardboard.

Middle School Visit to Elk Run - Tuesday after school, 7th and 8th-grade students were invited to Elk Run Assisted Living to hear stories from residents about their experiences during the Civil Rights Movement. Residents highlighted their memories of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech and reflected on the facts of the Movement. This was a wonderful opportunity to have the students learn from primary sources in our community, to supplement the Core Knowledge Curriculum on the Civil Rights Movement, and to begin to reflect on MLK Day which we honor on January 21st.
